Re: Security flaws of this setup
in Bitcoin Technical Support
I don't understand this rejection of Apple. It's true that it has closed-source code, but Windows is too, and it's much worse due to the absurd data collection by Windows ReCall and screenshots.

The problem is that they charged 4x the price for the same hardware that is shipped in Windows.

Both are terrible for privacy...

Re: Is this the official fist and last bitcoin website??
in Meta
bitcointalk.org is more familiar to us now and very few of us know about forum.bitcoin.org. Originally, the forum called bitcointalk.org was not yet created when people were discussing Bitcoin on forum.bitcoin.org, as well as discussing security issues and how to improve it, but when it was seen that the number of members of this forum was gradually increasing, the forum was converted from forum.bitcoin.org to bitcointalk.org on a separate domain. In other words, although the bitcointalk.org forum was not created by Satoshi Nakamoto, the idea and everything else came through him.

This is the version of the history people doesn't want to push.
Going by what you said, it means that Satoshi never wrote on this forum. But there is Satoshi account here and posts which were likely transferred.

it is the same forum. It is just a domain change.

Posts weren't transferred, just the domain was.

Just like Twitter and X. It is the same platform, just domain and brand name change

It may be worth mentioning that bitcointalk.org didn't exist at all when Satoshi was active.
Satoshi launched the bitcoin forum on the bitcoin.org domain and it was accessible at forum.bitcoin.org. Later, the forum was moved to bitcointalk.org.
It is true but there is more information about Bitcoin forum history which is like hidden information with many people especially new members.

Interesting information like forum name, domain name and admin changes with time with contributions from legends.
Bitcointalk's important historic changes.
Thanks for sharing this thread, I didn't knew it.

So, actually it was first  bitcoin.org/smf, then forum.bitcoin.org.

Very interesting, I really didn't know that.

Sharing the theymos quote:

The story of how I became head admin is actually pretty boring. Moderators were needed, so I was made a global moderator. Then admins were needed, so I was made an admin. Then over time the other admins slowly lost interest and resigned until I was the only one left. I guess most of the people who were around here to see this have more-or-less left the community now. That's a bit sad.

It's not entirely clear, but for simplicity I usually say that I became head admin at the beginning of 2011, a little over a year after the forum was created.

The forum was originally located at bitcoin.org/smf, then forum.bitcoin.org (hence the redirect), and finally bitcointalk.org. Fun fact: The name "bitcointalk" was invented by Jeff Garzik, and he's the one who bought the domain.

Re: Pocket Bitcoin - Troca transferência bancaria por Bitcoin
in Portugus (Portuguese)

Nao funciona apenas no brasil nao.

Re: Como migrar de Bitcoin Core para Knots em 3 passos simples (para iniciantes)

Achei artigo bom do Jameson Lopp, dizendo porque o bitcoin knots não é um projeto sério.

https://blog.lopp.net/knot-a-serious-project/

Ele levanta diversas atitudes e negligências com segurança do Luke ao longo dos anos, incluindo até a denunciar outros membros do core para o FBI.

So is this an unofficial website?
https://bitcoin.org/
As already stated by others, there is no official website for bitcoin.

From bitcoin.org about us page:

Bitcoin.org is not Bitcoin's official website. Just like nobody owns the email technology, nobody owns the Bitcoin network. As such, nobody can speak with authority in the name of Bitcoin.

I didn't know about this, thanks for sharing. Cbra is doing a nice job, and not trying to control bitcoin or abuse the authority of his website.

So who is actually maintaining this website?
Bitcoin.org was created by Satoshi and is now controlled by Cbra.
Bitcoincore.org is controlled by bitcoin core developers.

bitcointalk.org was also created by satoshi, and is now controlled by theymos

How is that possible? Are you comparing brand new top of the line laptops to very old cars?
I'll try to give an example: I just went to the apple.com website
~
I searched for a very popular random car in Brazil, it's from 2008 if I'm not mistaken.
So you do actually compare an expensive new laptop to a 17 years old car.

I think I can do that here too: the first Apple laptop I found costs €1829. For less than that, I can buy a 2008 Opel Astra, Volvo V30, Peugeot 308 or Citroen C4 Picasso. But I'm not buying either one of those: I wouldn't want an Apple laptop, and those cars are cheap to buy because they're expensive to own (taxes, insurance, fuel consumption and maintenance). In reality, I've bought recent model good quality second hand laptops for less than a full tank of gas. Not Apple, but IBM, Dell, Lenovo or HP. I can recommend anyone involved in Bitcoin to gain some experience with offline signing or just separating insecure software from your real system.

I think the problem is that you are comparing to an apple laptop.

Why use apple ? You will pay 10x the price of the same hardware...

You can get cheap laptop in amazon for like 250 usd. here in Brazil.

I never had an apple product. Even if I had 10mi in cash ..  just not worth it imo

Re: Pequena dvida, grande confuso

Cheesy

Lugar de fazer trade corretora.

Re: Why do you use crypto?
in Bitcoin Discussion
Traditional bank wires are obviously more convenient, or mobile wallets, but why do you guys use crypto exclusively? Personally, I use it for payment from anonymous clients

An international bank wire is way more expensive and slower than crypto .

Crypto is something much more convenient.  As it is borderless, permitionless , etc.

You just get the address and send it right away. Much better for international transfers.

Imagine how complicated would be to make signature campaigns payments here with bank wires
